What followed in the 28th November 1950 at 6 Am midnight was the siege. Fox Company had already engaged in a full-scale fight with the Chinese Communists. The Fox Company men were not in the knowledge that the enemy six divisions-40000 Chinese soldiers- were on to encircle the bulk of the First Marine Division. The Chinese soldiers faced it rough, and Warren McClure remembers nearly tripping off a wounded Chinese soldier buried in the snow with bullet holes across his bare stomach. Many Chinese could be seen moving out of the glowing bonfire at around 11 pm when Battery fired a white phosphorus shell from the Hagaru-ri register distance on the West Hill. On the third day (November 29, 1950, the Fox company was hit by friendly fire.
