marketing and sales, housekeeping, room operations, security, procurement, and recreation (CollegeGrad, n.d.). Even though a GM in the food and beverage industry and a GM in the lodging industry generally have similar responsibilities, there are specific underlying differences due to the variance in the industry they work in. The shared responsibilities include; hiring, training, supervising staff, and coordinating the activities of different departments (Careers in Food, n.d.). For the differences, GMs in the food and beverage industry predominantly focus on ensuring that the foods and beverages served to customers meet the expected standards (Careers in Food, n.d.). Unlike GMs in the lodging industry, who focus on improving marketing rooms, marketing ventures undertaken by GMs in the food and beverage industry are focused on improving a restaurant’s or hotel’s food and beverage sales (Careers in Food, n.d.).
