Critical Thinking
When you’ve finished your observation, go to the discussion area and share your observations with your classmates. Can the threat of punishment curb delinquent behavior? If not, how can it be controlled? Can and should parents have control over the fashion and fab of teenagers or should they simply let them be themselves?
Answer previewParents can and should have control over the fashion and fab of their teenagers. However, the level of control executed upon the teen should be limited. The transition in adolescence requires teenagers to begin making a decision and handle new responsibilities. In this stage, most teens are trying to figure out who they are, defined by their sense of fashion and style. Teenagers are highly concerned about how their peers perceive them; thus, they should explore their identity to some extent. However, complete freedom should not be permitted since the teen may exploit it. A safe space should be created for the child to experiment with their tastes and preferences in fashion (Kerr and Stattin, 2013). It is essential to advise them on specific dress codes that may threaten their general wellbeing. For example, too revealing clothes should not be tolerated by parents since they may expose a child to potential sexual abuse and trolling in their social settings.
