Answer preview
The first step towards reducing economic inequality entails setting reasonable minimum wages to protect low-income workers (Dabla-Norris et al., 2015). A significant portion of the American and global population depends on wages and salaries for sustenance. The gap in income between unskilled and skilled workers translates into economic inequality. Making legal provisions on minimum wages ensures that even the unskilled workers have sufficient money to cater to their needs and fashion opportunities, however small, for themselves and their families.
The government can roll out social security systems to promote equal opportunity for all persons, regardless of their social and economic status. The rationale is to ensure that even those children from low-income families can access a standard quality of education that allows them to compete with their wealthier colleagues. Governments should take tough stances against entities that exhibit racial discrimination. In situations where grave racial disparities exist, the government can embark on affirmative action to remedy such imbalances.
