My neighbor’s habit may affect the nitrogen cycle in the soil. Excess nitrogen that is in the fertilizer goes deep into the land and contaminates the groundwater. The excess nitrogen often facilitates the growth of weeds as there are more nutrients available than the grass can use. The contaminated groundwater also leads to contamination of water in the rivers, lakes, and oceans, the effect of this is that more aquatic weeds grow in the water and this affects the animals that survive in this water (Steffen, Richardson, Rockström, Cornell, Fetzer, Bennett & Folke,  2015).
