People living with disabilities have unique challenges they face every day. Teachers and parents need to work together to navigate help children with disabilities live fulfilled lives, especially those from minority groups. When working with parents whose children have disabilities, teachers should take up the role of an educator to the parent (Cook, Klein & Chen, 2015). Since the teacher is a specialist in the field, he or she has knowledge that most parents lack yet is essential if they are to understand their children.
