The natural environment
The natural environment poses a problem for economic theory. Even if we accept, for the sake of argument, that the free market serves both employer and employee, buyer and seller, equally, the environment may be harmed by market transactions. The air and water can suffer. Economists calls this the problem of externalities.

Companies are not becoming any greener. There is sufficient evidence to show that companies in their activities are destroying the environment without any care. Large Corporations are responsible for the damage to our environment. Governments should ensure that companies conserve and protect the environment. Such an obligation is based on the idea that governments are responsible for helping in the transition to a production that is less damaging to the environment and more efficient (Baumann-Pauly, Wickert, Spence, & Scherer, 2013).
