Sometimes de Quervain’s disease is referred to as de Quervain’s tenosynovitis or de Quervain’s syndrome. The swelling causes pain at the lower part of the thumb and the wrist especially when the impaired nerves rub against the lining of the tunnel they pass through. The swelling puts pressures on the nerves thus resulting in numbness and pain on the lower thumb or the wrist region.
