Rufino Tamayo was a Latin American artist from Mexico who was born on August 25, 1899. He was born of the Zapotec heritage, and he rose to fame and recognition in the middle of the 20th century. The primary influence that led him to get the desire to indulge in art was the death of his parents where he was forced to live with his aunt in New York. While there, his aunt enrolled him into drawing classes where he began his artistic journey. Some of the styles and movements that he grew fond of included those of cubism, impressionism, and fauvism (Ramos, 2017). He was not pleased with the way art was taught in san, and this was the point where he decided to study art on his own. Rufino Tamayo grew as one of the famous Latin American artists where his art purely portrayed the reality, history, and culture of the Mexican people.
