The storm caused significant flooding in Southeastern New York, and real-time tide gages measured in areas like Long Island and New York City exceeded the major coastal flood elevation levels of the National Weather Service (Cefalu, 2014). Widespread flooding happened in Lower New York Bay and Western bays and peak water levels of the two areas 100- year flood elevations established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) (Cefalu, 2014). New York was adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 since the city’s Subway system was flooded and almost all the road tunnels were flooded. A fire that originated from electrical poles destroyed several homes.
