  • Identify the separation of powers between the three branches of government. Discuss how each branch checks and balances the other branches.
  • Select a current event or issue from the past five years. Possible areas include: health care reform, presidential appointments, and national security, for example.
  • Discuss how the separation of powers and checks and balances affect this issue.

Cite at least four references to support the content of your paper.
