The purpose-centered approach promotes identity development since individuals search for jobs that provide maximum fulfillment. As a person searches for a line of expertise that best fulfills their desire, they identify with the chosen aspect. The approach allows students to identify what they are good at and exploit it, contributing to identity development. As the person narrows down the possible career perspectives, they develop a sense of self-efficacy, the belief in the usefulness of one’s abilities. (Kosine, Steger & Duncan, 2008).
