            The over-emergence analyzed in this article involves a situation in which the leadership emergence of a person does not match with their leadership effectiveness. In the section, gender plays a crucial role in predicting over-emergence within leadership. Within the article, men are likely to over-merge as leaders based on the gender role theory. The gender role theory creates shared role expectations in the society of what men and women’s’ behavior should encompass. However, based on the Expectancy violation theory, women emerge as leaders when they portray any agentic characters in the workplace. It is because women will benefit from any form of countervailing gender bias that needs to be eliminated in the organization (Lanaj and Hollenbeck, 2015). According to this theory, women with performance tasks are likely to have an advantage when involved in self-managing teams.
