Answer preview The Last Supper is one of the most famous paintings in the world. The painting was done by Leonardo da Vinci between the years 1495 and 1498 (Ladwein, 2006). It is an Italia High Renaissance masterwork and among the most well-known pieces of religious painting. The artwork depicts a scenario from Jesus’s final days, as recorded in the Bible. With his twelve disciples at his side, Christ had announced that a disciple amongst the twelve would deceive him. The image shows each apostle’s response to Jesus’s assertion (Isbouts & Brown, 2020). While it seems to be a simple piece of Scriptural artwork, it is a very sophisticated work whose numerical symbols, psychological intricacy, application of context, and dramatic emphasis distinguish this as the initial valid instance of High Renaissance artwork (Seidel, 2003). The painting, which spans 15 by 29 feet, hangs on the wall in the Santa Maria Delle Grazie monastery (Ladwein, 2006). (632words)
