The United States, over the years, had to deal with the discontent amongst people of color concerning the racial problems they encounter and have to deal with. One of the salient aspects of these racial problems revolves around the interaction between the country’s juvenile justice system and race. Most people of color, specifically African American’s feel that they are overtly overrepresented within the juvenile justice system. According to Jacobs and Sherman (2011), even though the youth of color make up thirty-eight percent of the minors eligible for detention, their overrepresentation in detention facilities has grown by seventy percent over the years.
