Answer preview
Daghar, Alinaghian, and Turner (2020) conducted a study to evaluate how collaborative inter-organizational relationships (CIR) affects supply chain risks using the social capital theory. Supply chain risks are common in organizations that perform all logistic operations without partnership with other industry players. For example, reduced demand can affect the company’s profitability, especially when the company has no partner to share the losses. Daghar et al. (2020) found that CIR can have positive and negative effects. The positive effect is that it becomes easy to manage supply chain risk when companies work together. It is because the companies can share information, make decisions, solve problems, and plan together. However, information sharing can bring issues concerning the confidentiality of organizations. Therefore, when an organization keeps secrets, its partner might think that the organization is withdrawing from the relationship. Based on social capital theory, it is clear that CIR is beneficial because organizations can overcome supply chain risks when they work together. For example, manufacturers and suppliers can work together to share risks. Daghar et al. (2020) work in a school of management at Cranfield University. Hence, they are experienced, and we should put weight on their opinions.
