In the past, data breaches were unheard of and were scandalous for companies that fell prey to cybercriminals. However, these breaches have become more familiar with more companies publicly acknowledging breaches and taking actions to secure their systems and customers’ data and privacy. One of the most notable examples of the most significant data breaches is one executed on Canva, a graphic design online platform. Canva allows users to access free and paid templates to create images for personal and professional graphic design. The breach occurred in May 2019, and Canva felt the effects up to seven months later in 2020. According to Canva (2021), hackers viewed 134 million users’ information, including paying customers’ payment records. The hackers first acknowledged the breach using popular online sites causing Canva to respond by accepting the breach and giving more details about it.
