Answer preview
Nursing education has evolved since 1860, the year it was first introduced by Florence Nightingale. She started a first nursing school where qualified applicants were taught how to deliver healthcare services. The government viewed Nightingale’s idea as effective and planned on opening many nursing schools worldwide. One of the shortcomings of Nightingale’s idea was that nurses were not allowed to work without supervision from the physician (Tracy & Grady, 2018). However, since BSN and MSN programs were introduced in nursing education, many changes have happened. Nurses are now able to perform some healthcare tasks without requiring supervision from doctors. Today, MSN-prepared nurses are highly skilled, which means that their roles do not require supervision. One of the crucial MSN roles is the geriatric nurse practitioner.
