A drug is a substance, medicinal or otherwise which impacts physiological effect on the body when taken in. Drug abuse refers to the compulsive, excessive and self-damaging use of habit-forming drugs or substances (Kendler & Sundquist, 2014). This kind of use leads to addiction leading to co-dependence with the drugs that could end up in profound physiological issues such as liver cirrhosis. Drug abuse has been an affliction to society throughout the ages. It is not only a physiological hazard but also causes effects such as poor performance at work. With the effects it wrought it becomes crippling to both individual development and societal development. This has seen the government having to step in and take action. In effect to that, there are a number of legislation that has been created in an effort to remedy such situations. This paper is, therefore, a synthesis of the two; legislation and drug abuse, using the Harrison Act.
