Background: According to Kirk (2016), typography will have a significant role in your visualizations. You have to be careful with your text, but you must also be concerned with how the text looks. This then leads to color and functional harmony. You must provide the balance of colors in your visualizations (Kirk, 2016). The harmony of colors you select during design will impact many aspects of the overall visualization.

Different color theories inform which colors an individual decides to mix. One of these theories is the RGB additive color model, which advocates for the combination of red and cyan (Nuwer, 2012). There are other color combinations within this theory, such as the mixture of green and magenta, and the blue-yellow combination. The traditional RYB color model gave rise to the RBD additive color model and involves the combination of red and green, yellow and purple, and the blue-orange combination. Finally, the opponent-process theory dictates that the most suitable color combinations are either red and green or blue and yellow (Nuwer, 2012).
