Quasi-experimental variables and designs have many features. One is experimental research and design tests causal hypotheses, the experiment is viewed as an intervention where a treatment is tested on how well it can achieve its objectives (Campbell & Stanley, 2015). Another feature is that Quasi-experimental designs do not have a random assignment, that is, assignment to certain conditions is by way of self-selection or administrator selection. The third feature is that they spot a comparison group that is almost similar to the treatment group in terms of baseline characteristics. A quasi-experimental approach is applicable mostly when it’s impossible to randomize individuals or groups to control and treatment groups. For example, if a hospital is introducing a new order- entry method and wishes to check the impact of this intervention on various medication they may use this approach.
