Over the last few decades, documented studies have been carried out on the feasibility of using microneedles as an effective method of administering drugs and vaccines. Though it is routine to self-administer therapeutic drugs by patients, self-vaccination is rare. However, the development of self-vaccination is a convenient way of expanding vaccination cover as well as reducing administration costs. Studies on the use of microneedles patches have been carried out previously in relation to their delivery of various vaccines and drugs in pre-clinical studies through information available has been limited especially on their use on human subjects.
