Answer preview

The concept of aerotropolis was first introduced by Kasarda in 2005. However, Karsada did not offer a comprehensive or conclusive definition of this concept. Due to this, subsequent definitions of aerotropolis have differing connotations. Sometimes, the concept is used to denote busy airport hubs, such as when Memphis or Hong Kong is called aerotropolises. Others have defined the concept as an aviation-intensive global economy, such as when intercontinental supply chains get mapped. According to Flores-Liou et al. (2018), aerotropolises are urban sub-regions whose land use, economy, and infrastructure are centered around an airport. An aerotropolis is similar in design to the conventional metropolis comprising a central city and its surrounding rings of commuter-heavy suburbs.
