American society is faced with various social issues that challenge the existence of individuals living here. These issues are facilitated by multiple aspects and are also approached with different measures. One legal measure used to address the problems in the Republic is the creation of policies. These are laws that are centered on addressing one specific issue in society. A social issue facing America is child abuse. Child abuse is summarized as the physical, sexual and psychological mistreatment of children in society. Child abuse, in general, is the failure of a parent or the specified guardian of a child to meet all their basic needs and uphold a child’s rights. In America, this social issue has been addressed through the creation of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA). This policy was put into place as a response to child abuse in America and has done so in several ways. Over time, the policy has also been developed to better suit the changing demands of the social issue through various amendments.
