Answer preview
First, the woman lacks sufficient companion because her society may be against the step she took. Therefore, I would make sure that I maintain interpersonal interaction with the woman in order to develop trust and make her feel that she is not alone (Jones, Lattof, & Coast, 2017). Secondly, the woman has no one to assist her because she does not have a husband. Therefore, as a nurse, I would send her regular messages to enquire about her whereabouts and to remind her about prenatal clinical visits. When developing a birth plan, I would respect her decisions and avoid asking whether she would want her husband to be present during birth.
- What supports will be beneficial to the new mother postpartum?
After delivery, the woman will enter the postpartum period. According to Andrews, Boyle, and Collins (2020), women tend to adopt cultural practices for purification and seclusion. As a nurse, I would ask the woman about her cultural practices and advise her on how she can stick to those practices without jeopardizing the health of the baby. Women usually experience postpartum depression (Horowitz, Posmontier, Chiarello, & Geller, 2019).
