Appalachian had a population of twenty million people as at 2010, covering four hundred and twenty countries in thirteen states from New York to Mississippi. The region is cultural and is located in the Eastern United States and covers Southern Tier of New York, northern Alabama, and Georgia. Several myths and distortions have been developed to explain the isolation, temperament, and behaviors of the inhabitants. It is believed that the people in this region have struggled with poverty since the early 20th century and logging and coal mining dint help them get the long-term benefits. Construction of dams was done in the 1960s to help the region diversify the economy, with the primary objective been to provide the region with electricity, better healthcare, and education. Most of them are Christians.
