Chapter 1 Introduction ( 2 pages)

The introduction section of the first chapter is used to acquaint the reader with the major theme(s) of the proposal. Begin with a purposeful statement to catch a reader’s attention. Describe the purpose of the proposed study, and provide the theoretical basis for the research. Familiarize the reader with the available literature and the point from which the paper will take off. The final paragraph in the introduction subsection should lead the reader in a meaningful way into the problem statement.

1.Background

Use this section to provide the reader with the information necessary and appropriate to position the project in the world of human factors / ergonomics. In addition, examples of the performance impacts of the current designs or approaches is to be presented here. Overall, this section is the only place in the document where you will be able to state why the project area is of interest and what the possible impacts of an investigation could be.

2. Problem Statement (for example: the usability issue of the existing AR app, so what we trying to do here is to improve the usability of the user experience).

The actual statement is a one or two sentence idea that clearly identifies what you are trying to solve, respond to, test, or investigate. Do not provide solution(s). In our case, we are trying to state the need for research to determine the cause.

3. Importance of the Study (or Need or Scope)

The purpose, significance, and need for the study should be addressed within this subsection. More specifically, why is it important that the study be conducted; in what ways will the outcomes contribute to the professional body of knowledge? Be specific in this section about the need for the investigation.

Chapter 2 Review of literature (3 pages)

A review should identify critical knowledge gaps and thus motivate researchers to close this breach i.e. you are not only critically examining past research, but leveraging this information to provide a basis or idea for future research. With that said, it becomes imperative that your systematic search should ensure that you accumulate a relatively complete census of relevant literature. While conducting your search, if after a certain point of time, you are not finding new concepts in your article set – STOP the literature search.

While writing the literature review, structure it around a main idea about the literature that you would like the readers to understand. Thus, ensure that while writing the literature, the discussion of journals/ papers is integrated and critical (Be critical of the procedures and design, and the discussion and conclusions drawn from the findings).
