Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that differentiate a man from a woman, such as reproductive organs, chromosomes, and hormones. However, sex does not differ within societies, so it cannot be changed. On the contrary, gender refers to socially constructed elements of men and women, such as their roles in the community, norms, and relationships with others (Haefele-Thomas & Combs, 2019). Gender differs between societies and can be changed.
