In today’s business world, acquisitions are vital parts of the business. That is because a big company can acquire a small business to become more established and reap the benefits of a bigger infrastructure. However, the same small business can be acquired and dissolved entirely by the bigger firm (Caiazza, Galloppo, & Paimanova, 2021). There are four main types of acquisition: vertical acquisition, conglomerate acquisition, horizontal acquisition, and congeneric acquisition. Different acquisitions provide different levels of change for companies (Merger & acquisition P, 212) Sometimes a company can buy another but let the purchased organization continue to run independently. However, some companies buy a competitor intending to shut them down.
