Answer preview

Ambush marketing is when a company that has not sponsored an event or advert pretends to be affiliated with it and possibly sponsors it. The strategy is mainly used during sports events or traditional marketing tools like billboards. An excellent example is Stella’s ambush of a tennis event in the US Open in 2011. They place many billboards near the venue and sold their goods on the closest stand possible to look like they were the sponsors. Rona company also ambushed Apple when they placed their billboard right beneath Apple’s to show that the two were affiliated. Their image seemed to catch Apple’s dripping paint with buckets recycled by Rona.
