Cognitive development
To prepare:
Watch each of the four cognitive development examples in this week’s Learning Resources and decide which Piagetian concepts are depicted in each video.
The Assignment (2 pages):
After watching each video, explain whether each child’s response to the tasks follows Piaget’s predictions. How would Piaget explain each child’s demonstrated behavior? Use Piaget’s terms and provide definitions or explanations of those terms. Explain any recent developments in the theoretical literature that might account for the children’s demonstrated behavior.
Be sure to support your explanations with specific references to the Learning Resources. Use proper APA format and citations.
Child development
In 3-4 pages please write your personal theory of child and adolescent development. If you haven’t had any formal training in developmental theories—Great! You are exactly where you need to be right now. This assignment is a reflective piece, and should be based on your own thinking and life experiences. You are expected to include at least two references in the body of your paper. At least one reference must be from our textbook, and the other reference may also be from our textbook, or from a peer-refereed professional journal (not a book, web page, magazine, newspaper, etc.). Reference your work using the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual. Return to the APA folder in the Orientation/Activities 1 module if you are unsure about how to do correct citations. Reference attached rubric for assignment expectations.
What are the most important factors in determining how a child turns out as an adult?
How do children’s minds grow and change over time?

Interpretation of the poem
SUBSTANCE: The assignment as a whole should demonstrate a good understanding of the literary elements in the poem—both what they are and what they mean—especially by accurately using the vocabulary we have learned. Its two paragraphs should offer clear, reasonable descriptions and a reasonable interpretation of the poem, consistent with the evidence of the poem itself. It must be original work: your ideas, expressed in your own words. LENGTH: Each answer should be a single well-organized paragraph of 250-300 words (+ / – 25 words is acceptable). Edit your answers carefully so that you make the best use possible of your limited word count. The assignment as a whole will be two paragraphs and total 500-600 words. FORMAT: • Put your full name and B00 number at the top of the first page and give your assignment a useful title. • Use a standard 12 point font that is easy to read (such as Times New Roman or Arial). • Double-space the entire assignment.
Middle childhood stage
Middle childhood is when children understand how they “measure up” in comparison to their peers. As the brain matures, children begin thinking logically, planning, evaluating, and applying strategies to solve problems. As we know, intelligence may be defined in many different ways. Answer the following questions in at least 150 words each question. Include at least ONE textual refrence from the sources posted.
1. Which theory of intelligence do you most agree with?
The Social Construction of Gender.
The purpose of journal is for you to have a space to think through challenging concepts, questions, and new ideas in the readings and viewings. You should keep up with your journals as you read and watch rather than all at once. You will write one journal entry and must be at least 1500 words. Your entries must be coherent and analytical – in other words, they cannot be bullet marks or random thoughts without explanation.
Journal entry should:
Summarize each of the readings and viewings for the week, including the author’s main arguments, focus, and key examples (about 200 words per reading or viewing; for longer viewings or readings, your summaries should also be longer)
Analyze the readings as a whole (do you agree or disagree? What do you find challenging? What do you find new or intriguing? How can you apply this information to your own life? How do you see the material coming up in the media, politics, or other current events? Etc.). Feel free in this section to link to videos, articles, or other relevant material. (about 400 words total)
Pose at least 2-3 questions you still have after reading the week’s material.
Journals are my way of assessing how closely you are reading and watching the assigned texts, so include page numbers (e.g. Frye 3) and time stamps (e.g. 1:30 for 1 minute and 30 seconds in the video) as you reference the texts, and explain with enough detail that it is clear you have read and watched with thoughtful intent. Journal entry should take about 8 hours to complete.
