Self-portrait
First student
My self-portrait is somewhat up close but not so close that all you see is me. I wanted my photo to be this way so you can see the emotion on my face as well as some of the objects nearby. My emotions are somewhat flat or removed. Dealing with a full time job, three college courses, and life can get overwhelming. I feel like sometimes I don’t know who I am anymore among all the stress. I chose to go with a silver tone filter to portray the monotonous routine of life. I’m situated in my cubicle, during my lunch hour working on my homework. In front of me I have my course book, notepad and a pen. These are at my fingertips showing the importance of these objects to try to keep me focused. I’ve got my cup of coffee nearby to keep me alert.
I think my self-portrait is successful. I wanted to show that life gets busy. We all have a lot going on and life isn’t only about the good. We have to work through a lot of stressful situations to find the good in life. With social media these days, it’s easy to have the perception of your friends and family only having these amazing lives because they only want to post happy moments. Life isn’t always happy. Real life is a rollercoaster.
Children’s learning
You are a Kindergarten One (5 yr old) teacher. During the mid-year parent-teacher conference, the parents give their feedback that whenever they asked the children about what they did in school, the children would reply “eat, sleep, play”. Parents raised their concern over the suitability of the Project Approach used in the school curriculum. They remind you that the children will be in Kindergarten two the following year. They are not confident that their children will be school ready for Primary one if they are only playing in your class. To reassure and help the parents understand that the children are learning through play, you have decided to organize a 2-hour workshop on your school’s Project Approach. Synthesizing and Writing
Due Week 5 and worth 100 points
When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking.
The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
For Part I of the assignment (due Week 3), you read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes, reviewed the Procon.org Website in order to gather information, and engaged in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
* Remember that in the Week 2 Discussion, you examined the biases discussed in Chapter 2 of the webtext.
In Part II of the assignment (due Week 5), you will write a paper to synthesize your ideas.
Part II – Writing
Write at three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:
State your position on the topic you selected for Assignment 1.1.
Identify (3) three premises (reasons) from the Procon.org website that support your position and explain why you selected these specific reasons.
Listening and speaking skills
When focusing on listening and speaking skills, it is essential to make a connection to interpersonal communication skills that will be used throughout the students’ educational and professional future. Through hearing how others use language, and using it themselves, students work together, describe their surroundings, and make sense of their own and each other’s experiences. Integrating listening and speaking skills with reading and writing instruction reemphasizes the importance of language and literacy in everyday life.
For this assignment, use the “COE Lesson Plan Template” to create a lesson plan for the students in the “Class Profile” that focuses on listening and speaking, and is based on the literature you previously selected.
Include the following in your lesson:
Objectives aligned to state or national grade appropriate listening and speaking standards
Content-specific vocabulary development
Engaging instructional strategies and activities in listening and speaking
Assessment aligned to learning objectives that is engaging for students and provides meaningful feedback
Differentiation to meet learning differences or needs
In a 250-500 word reflection, rationalize your instructional choices, citing how the listening and speaking activities chosen build upon the previously taught English language arts skills. Justify why the listening and speaking strategies implemented are essential.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Remember emotion has no room in this essay. Stick to the facts to support your argument. You must include aspects of personal responsibility and decision making in the choices of your argumentative topic. In your essay you will evaluate choices and actions, and relate consequences to your decision on the stance of your topic. Feel free to include similar comments about personal responsibility regarding the opposing side of your topic.
You will have to use at least two outside sources (No Wikipedia or social media sources:Twitter, Facebook etc.). You must correctly cite all sources in APA style both within your essay and on your References page. You should also consult the Online Writing Lab (OWL):
