Answer preview

There are four stages of syphilisthe primary stage, the secondary stage, the latent stage, and the tertiary stage. It is broadly categorized into two groups which are acquired and congenital syphilis. In the primary stage, the signs of syphilis are seen, which include a small sore or chancre. The sore mainly develop on the exact place where the bacteria entered the skin. After several weeks or months, the painless chancre may heal on itself or become worse and develop other chancres. Secondary syphilis develops a few weeks or within the first months of the original chancre healing. A patient is likely to experience rashes that may eventually spread and cover the whole body (Hicks & Clement, 2019). The rashes may be accompanied by sores that look like warts in the mouth or around the genital area and might completely disappear after several weeks. It might also temporarily disappear and reappear, which can go on for many years. When one is not treated, syphilis moves to the latent stage even with no symptoms. It is possible for latent syphilis to last for between one to ten years where signs and symptoms may never be seen.
