Based on the article, ‘Heartbleed Vulnerability Management and Swedish Municipalities’ written by Wen, S. F., & Kowalski, S. In software library, the heartbleed bug is a serious vulnerability as it allows people to steal protected information under normal conditions. Heartbleed is a vulnerability that gives cyber attackers access to sensitive information on big companies like Yahoo and Google. It was caused by an open-source code library that implemented the secure socket layers (SSL) and transport layer security (TLS). Most of the attackers use the heartbleed bug in tricking vulnerable web servers into sending sensitive information of either a person or a company, including passwords and usernames. It allows the endpoint of a TLS connection to sense whether it is still active, and the need for session management in DTLS motivates it (Wen & Kowalski, 2017). The government has promoted the use of open-source software in the public sector in Sweden. The bug problem has been a major threat in Sweden and other parts of the world.
