Lastly, the pandemic affected the attendance and protocol of funeral services. At first, the NFDA required attendance of a maximum of ten people in one funeral service. According to Burrell and Selman (2020), the number of infections increased in the first phase of infections, and all gatherings had to be regulated to manage the rate of infections. After the infection rate dropped, the NFDA relaxed the rules and left it to funeral directors (FDs) to determine the most appropriate measures to take for their funeral homes.
