On the second and subsequent Canto, Virgil explains to Dante about his mission of restoration and saving him. He explains about Virgin Mary’s pity on pilgrim predicament and appoints Lucia to be the savior. Lucia, which means light passes the mantle to Beatrice, whose name signifies blessedness. Beatrice appears to Virgil and reveals God’s will as the ultimate bestower of divine grace (Alighieri et al., 1995). Virgil helps the pilgrim to conquer the challenges in all ninth circle stages of hell to the earth. Lastly, Dante inferno poses three essential questions which include, the most salient political, theological, and cultural elements, the western European culture around 1300, and the most critical thing to Dante.
