This piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers, is the warfare of the Christian King of Great Britain. Determined to keep open a market where MEN should be bought and sold, he has prostituted his negative [royal veto] for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce…. Why was the declaration of independence written?

The Declaration of Independence was a document drafted by Thomas Jefferson after the passing of a resolution by the Congress of the united colonies to announce to King George III and the world in general of their intention to strain ties with Britain and be free of their influences. The reasons why the colony had agitated for independence are brought out in the three sections of the document.

The first section spells out peoples’ rights which include the right to be treated equal, liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness. It had become necessary for the colony to free itself as the rights as mentioned…
