This story is set in the African plains and revolves around the American Macombers, Francis and Margot, and their British hunting guide Robert Wilson. At the beginning of the story, there is unease as the group sits in a tent having their drinks because of the cowardly display of Francis Macomber during a lion hunt. His cowardice brings out his wife’s cruel and bitchy side, and she chides him throughout the meal and later cuckolds him with Wilson. She is certain that he cannot leave her and does not make any attempt to explain or apologize. It appears she has the power in the relationship because Francis alludes that she had done this frequently in the past. The following day, they go hunting for buffaloes. After they notice a herd of three buffaloes, they start to give chase in their car, which is illegal. They shoot all
