Answer preview
The type of statistical test that could be used in a research project of analyzing pre-intervention cholesterol levels for a group of high school students participating in an after-school athletic program is the Pearson’s chi-square test of association. This test is most suitable when assessing categorical data for two independent variables (McHugh, 2014). In this study, there is a categorical data set which is a group of high school students. Also, there are two independent variables involved in this research, including pre-intervention cholesterol level and participants in an after-school athletic program. The Pearson’s chi-square test will help analyze the relationship between the cholesterol levels and physical activities, which is athletics. Therefore, the researcher will be interested in observing the relationship between the levels of cholesterol in a high school student that engages in athletic activities. This study’s expected observation is that there will be a significant relationship between the two independent variables. However, the researcher can also expect to find no association between the variables.
