Organizations operate within a political, social, and legal framework, and hence the views of employees on controversial issues are interpreted as to its own. Monitoring can also promote productivity by regulating employees’ online activity during the day. Employees accessing social media through mobile devices can be overactive during work hours (Mello, 2012). Social media present a critical challenge to employers by blurring social life and work life. I believe that it is appropriate for an organization to have a proactive measure that ensures employees are responsible for their views on objectionable issues. Likely, an employee who is actively engaged in controversial social media topics will spend much of his time at work following the comments. One major concern about the negative implication of monitoring is employee consent during recruitment. The organization policy must be clear on its monitoring activities during recruitment.
