Between 1970 and 1973, three important acts were passed which included the clean air act, the clean water act, and the endangered species act. More acts were created to enhance the protection of the environment such as the Nuclear Waste Policy passed in 1982 and the Oil pollution act in 1990 (Butler, 2017). For effective control of manufactured chemicals, the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and rodenticide act was passed in 1996 that regulated pesticide use and distribution. As at the 21st century, two major acts have been passed including the Federal Food, Drug and cosmetic act signed in 2002 and Energy Independence and Security act in 2007.
