Smoking cigarettes is a major cause of coronary artery disease (Kamceva, Arsova-Sarafinovska, Ruskovska, Zdravkovska, Kamceva-Panova, & Stikova, 2016). Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when fat deposits, referred to as plaque, accumulate in a person’s coronary arteries. Coronary arteries are crucial to a person’s health because they are the blood vessels responsible for supplying blood and oxygen to a person’s heart muscles (Malakar, Choudhury, Halder, Paul, Uddin, & Chakraborty, 2019). Plaque buildup thins the interior walls or the coronary arteries, making it difficult for blood and oxygen to pass through. This could lead to a heart attack. Some symptoms that one’s coronary arteries are clogged include chest pain and pressure (Malakar et al., 2019).
