Further, the feminist’s movement challenged men to acknowledge women’s ability and respect their bodies. Sisterhood was in play when feminists urged men not to control women’s sexuality, birth control, and reproductive rights. In solidarity, women stood against rape and sexual harassment. Hook (2000) observed that the first step towards creating a powerful sisterhood was to change the thinking about sexism. Feminist sisterhood involves care for all females and a shared commitment against injustice. Unfortunately, women who had not gone through consciousness-raising joined the movements and continued to advance the patriarchal agenda and sabotaged the vision of sisterhood. Thus, Hook is appealing for a “renewed commitment to political solidarity between women as we were” (Hook, 2000).
