The fourth stage is depression, which is the darkest phase of the grieving process. I encountered deep sadness and more self-blame for the loss of my patient. I felt a void in my life, and even the gospel could not console me during this time. However, the scripture from Hebrews 13:5 states that the Lord will never leave nor forsake me helped to build my strength to move forward. This verse improved my faith in God’s will and prevented my emotions of loss from clouding my professional and personal life. The last stage of the grieving process is acceptance. This stage does not happen to anyone, and it entails the bravery to resist the inevitable and make peace with fate. I experienced this stage when I chose to accept God’s will in my patient’s life and withdraw from emotions of guilt and anger into calmness. However, I found comfort in my colleagues. Also, Mathew 5:3, which states that blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted, walked me through the grief process (Bible, 2014).
