Hawthorne Effect
According to Sedgwick & Greenwood (2015), the Hawthorne effect is a term used to describe people who tend to be more productive and follow the laid down procedures when they know they are subject to an experiment. This means that such people behave well, work hard, and observe the set rules and regulations when they are subjected to supervision. The term was initially established in 1958 by Henry A. Landsberger when experimenting in the factory. He found out that the productivity of employees is influenced by their work environment, colleagues, and their expertise. During the experiment, it was established that physical variations such as lighting do not affect the employee’s productivity. Instead, the interest and care shown to them boost their productivity….
