As mentioned in the paper’s introductory paragraph, understanding the various measures used in health assessments is critical. This is because such knowledge increases a person’s ability to perform a needs assessment effectively. Generally, three elements are looked at when conducting health assessments. The first element revolves around the health needs of a particular population group or community (Becker, 2015). The terminology “health needs” refers to the various healthcare-related challenges and issues individuals within a community are forced to contend with (Becker, 2015). Different population groups will more often than not have different health needs. To figure out the health needs of a community, an individual has to look at various indicators of the community members’ health status. Some of the common indicators include the prevalence of certain ailments such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases or the presence of unhealthy and risky behaviors such as substance abuse (Becker, 2015).
