From a critical outlook on how the researchers conducted the study, their research approach was consistent in promoting cultural competence. In this case, although the respondents opted to use English as the language to communicate during the interview, the interviewer was a multilingual Korean. This heightens the study’s strength since the multilingual investigator had an opportunity to interpret where the participants did not understand. Also, Erickson et al. (1999) used a systematic research approach in stating the research problem, research question, and methodology to use and offer clearly outlined results and discussion.  However, a notable weakness is that the sample size used was small, thus affecting the generalizability of the outcomes in larger populations. Nevertheless, a primary lesson learned is that cultural sensitivity is crucial in clinical settings, for it increases the clinicians’ awareness on how to improve health by recognizing traditional cultural practices among Korean immigrants (Erickson et al., 1999). Another lesson learned is that cultural sensitivity reduces conflict between patients and health professionals. On this note, clinicians who portray an understanding of the varying cultural beliefs and practices manage to relate well with clients and recommend strategic healthcare plans that respect their values. Hence, in the application form, specialists offering speech-language pathology can use this information to make a diagnosis while taking into account the causing cultural factors in patients. Also, they could develop treatment models that match the unique beliefs, values, and practices of Korean American clients.
