Nurses significantly contribute to healthcare delivery, particularly when addressing elderly care needs. This is a population whose numbers are increasing dramatically. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (2016), the current population of the elderly is approximately 617 million. This accounts for 8.5% of the global population, comprising individuals aged 65 years and above. NIH (2016) further reveals that by 2050, this population will have increased by 17%, accounting for 1.6 billion. As the aging population grows, this age group is prone to experiencing healthcare challenges which health professionals should be aware of and determine strategies to implement. Health professionals, notably registered nurses (RN), should implement effective strategies for health prevention and promotion measures that improve healthful living.
