Humanism in the Early Renaissance
Discuss the significance of humanism in early Renaissance art. Write a minimum 3 paragraph essay comparing and contrasting the works provided (Giotto’s Madonna Enthroned and Masaccio’s Tribute Money) in terms of their subject matter and style. Giotto shows humanist influence, yet is still considered part of the the period of the Late Gothic Italy. By the time Masaccio is painting in the Early Italian Renaissance, some stylistic changes occur that historians associated with humanist influence. The humanists believed that the ancient Roman and Greece education could be applied in the society rebirth. The humanists acknowledge the pagan and early Christian writers.
