Humanism in the Early Renaissance

Discuss the significance of humanism in early Renaissance art. Write a minimum 3 paragraph essay comparing and contrasting the works provided (Giotto’s Madonna Enthroned and Masaccio’s Tribute Money) in terms of their subject matter and style. Giotto showhumanist influence, yet is still considered part of the the period of the Late Gothic Italy. By the time Masaccio is painting in the Early Italian Renaissance, some stylistic changes occur that historians associated with humanist influence. Explain how you can see humanist influence in the early Italian Renaissance. Your essay should have introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Use as much relevant vocabulary as possible.

Humanism was developed in the Italian cities around the 15th century. The humanism was heavily rooted in the classical style. The humanists believed that the ancient Roman and Greece education could be applied in the society rebirth.  The humanists acknowledge the pagan and early Christian writers.  In this era, the humanist ideas were presented in the writing and drawings. Some of the early Italian artists who are recognized for the rebirth of modern society include Giotto di Bondone and Masaccio.
