The China economy and population has increasingly gained popularity for fast food preference attributed to the rise of fast food ventures in the country such as KFC with about 4000 outlets and McDonald with about 1200 outlets. The vast number of outlets indicate the demand for fast foods in the country with most people preferring to enter a fast food outlet rather than cooking. Restaurants have also reacted to the preference and are taking expansion initiatives to meet the rising demand. For example, McDonald’s plans as at 2013 were to expand to about 2000 outlets to compete with the increasing KFC outlets. In application, with the current world trends, everyone in the family takes full-time careers, unlike the early era where wives were left at home to cook as their husbands fend for the family. The preference for fast foods is a result of the following explained reasons.

Causes for Fast Food Preference in China

Primarily, the 24-hour economy of China is a cause for the rise in preference for fast foods. China’s economy has enabled people to work for more hours with the ability to get good jobs that pay for overtime. People working for overtime hours lack time to rush home to cook and therefore prefer fast foods. Moreover, most of the working-class people work for more than 8 hours which causes them to opt to enter a restaurant rather than cooking.
